The authentic golf megastar Laura Davies will be defending the title she won in 2010. Her presence is a huge incentive for the tournament for which several great players, capable of winning the trophy, have ensured their presence. Twelve months ago, Laura Davies enhanced her legend by winning the Open de España Femenino at Flamingos Golf in Benahavis after offering us a new exhibition of golf, adding then her fourth trophy of that season after winning won in New Zealand, Germany and Austria, and increasing her record of tournament honours even more afterwards by winning another tournament in India. Laura Davies, 47 years old, has an impressive sporting achievements record, with 77 victories, which include over 30 victories in various tournaments on the Ladies European Tour and 20 under LPGA (American circuit), with the added merit that she has won a tournament continuously, year after year with the exception of 2005, since she turned professional in 1985, when he won the Belgian Open. Since then and until today, Laura Davies has built a staggering record that began with the mentions of ‘Rookie of the Year and No. 1 of the Order of Merit in 1985, on the European Tour. She achieved this distinction nothing less than seven times in all her career. Outside Europe, Laura Davies has also won very important victories in the American circuit and in Japan, with special mention of the U.S. Women’s Open in 1987, a victory that chained to another ‘Great’, the British Women’s Open 1986. Such a demonstration of good play has brought her throughout her career more than 3.5 million euros in the Ladies European Tour and more than 8.5 million dollars in the American circuit. The also tenfold Solheim Cup player Laura Davies won the 1986 Open de España Femenino in La Manga and repeated experience in last year’s edition held in Flamingos Golf. La Quinta Golf & Country Club in Benahavis will host the Open de España Femenino for the first time in its history, a tournament that has the support of the Royal Spanish Golf Federation and the Royal Andalusian Golf Federation.

Don Joaquin Moya Angeles, (Club President) was delighted to re-open the recently renovated Course C at La Quinta Golf and Country Club. Undeterred by the challenging economic climate of the past year La Quinta has continued to heavily invest in the development of its first-class facilities. Two million Euros´ has been invested installing a new irrigation system and a re-design of key holes. Course C now boasts two brand new par 3’s. The 2nd is a daunting par 3 of 182m from the white tees over water (see below). The 6th another new par 3 of 133m built into the mountainside and offering spectacular views across the Mediterranean.

The project has been supervised under the watchful eye of former Ryder Cup player Manuel Pinero and directed by Head Superintendant Antonio Pineda to conform to the new decree set out by the Junta de Andalucia.

Don Borja Pascual (Club Vice-President) commented “I am delighted we will be one of the first clubs in Andalucia to follow the new decree and I am certain the improvements will vastly improve the playability of the course.”

La Quinta once again plays host to the Benahavis Senior Masters for the second successive year on 15th-17th October 2010 and the changes to C course will prove a significant challenge to the very best on the European Seniors Tour.

The city of Malaga has made a bid to host the World Cup in 2018 or 2022, if FIFA gives it to Spain and Portugal, not only has the capital to host the event, but it is thought that it will extend from East to West. The new Malaga stadium could be a big bonus, cooperation with various municipalities of the province is one of its strengths. Apparently not only Málaga will have an upgraded infrastructure, but the towns of Antequera, Marbella, Vélez-Malaga and Benahavis will too!

Marbella with Meliá La Quinta Golf Resort & Spa and Villa Padierna (in the Benahavis municipal) are both five star hotels and frequently house world wide and elite football teams for their preseason or specialized training events.

I think I can speak on the whole of Benahavis, when I say:

“Let’s make it happen!”
