Benahavis Elections – 2011

There has been an extension to registering on the “padron” in order to be eligible to vote in the 2011 Municipal Elections. The elections at the end of May 2011 will decide the mayor and councillors for the following four years.

Registration on the padron has to be done before 30th December 2010 and registration to vote can be done on the same day. For residents already on the padron, the window to register on the censo electoral (vote) will remain open until January the 15th 2011.

European residents may vote in local and European elections (and stand as candidates). For this they must appear on the municipal register (padron municipal) at the town hall (which all residents are legally required to do). Those residents who already appear on the municipal register should go to the town hall and state specifically that they wish to vote. Appearing on the register does not automatically mean residents are registered to vote, though they will have been asked if they wish to vote at the point of registration.

Please note the cut-off for voter registration will be the end of October 2010, around 6 months prior to the elections. For further details please contact the town hall of Benahavis.
